I need to change my IP address for a laptop on my network. My main desktop (wired from router to PC), and a wireless laptop have same IP address somehow. I get message on both that I have "IP address conflict". I have a Belkin Router. Ubee cable modem (Charter Communications provider). Desktop is Windows XP. Laptops (3 total) run Windows 7. All IP addresses are the same with the end numbers different. Desktop ends in 1, Laptop 1 end in 1, Laptop 2 ends in 2, and Laptop 3 ends in 3. So how do I change Laptop 1 to #4, so there is no conflict?

Do you know if the 3 working machines are using DHCP to get their IP address from the router?

I hope you don’t mind me butting in with this one but the way to resolve this would be to manually set up a static IP Address for each computer. I can walk you through this but I would first need to know your LAN IP Address, Subnet mask, Default Gateway, and preferred DNS Server.
To find out the required information needed to set up a static IP Address for your computers then
Windows XP:
Click on your start menu => Click on Run => Type in the Run box this: cmd and click on the OK button, this will open your command prompt box. In the command prompt box type in this: ipconfig /all and hit enter on your keyboard. Now you should see the relevant information.
Windows 7
Click on your start menu notice you should see a search bar, in the search bar type in this: cmd and hit enter on your keyboard, now the command prompt box should open. Type in the command prompt box this: ipconfig /all and hit enter on your keyboard. Now you should see the relevant information.
Just for a little example here is what mine looks like:
IPV4 Address: 192.168.210.100 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.210.100 Preferred DNS Server: 8.8.8.8
Note: I use Google’s DNS server, your DNS server might be the same address as your Default Gateway.
