Re: Can IP address be captured by link in tweet, FB Post, et

While code could be added to a link to provide detection, the best option may be to send the person a link to a web site where you can access the SERVER LOGS. I do this all the time. But you need some kind of web site where you can have something for them to go to and try to open like a web page, ph...

Re: Could you trace this to her location?

Bill, Don't fall for an romantic emails you get from people you don't know, even if they aren't from some country in Africa. I did a search in Google for the email address of the sender and wasn't able to find anything. Then I did a search for "Subject: Hello sweety" WITH the quotes and I found quit...

Re: Need to find an email from an IP

Even if you were to get an email address it could be faked or one that was only used for the activity you describe. Since the real issue is the possible hacked email account that is not yours, the account owner is the one who should be pursuing this. You could contact optonline.net to find out who w...

Re: Trace Email IP address

Gmail does not pass along the "real" IP address of the person sending a message as far as I know. MSN/Hotmail is the same. Yahoo does from what I have seen. When you use Gmail the message only shows it as coming from Google which is located in California. So if you are trying to send a message and h...

Re: Trying to find real name

Sure. One other thing that may help: If you feel the WHOIS contact information on the domain name is false or that the other contact information is not correct, you can complain to the domain register listed in the WHOIS information. The registrar is required to contact the domain owner and make the...

Re: IP address

Yes, you could send them the link in an email, but I thought you didn't have their email address, just forum username to send them a PM.

Why are you trying to find out their IP address?

Re: IP address

You could ask the admin of the forum if they can tell you the IP address of the person that sent you a PM. They might be willing to help if you can explain why you need that information. The other option is to send the person a PM with a link to a web site, file, or image on a site you have access t...

Re: Corporate IP Question

You could offer them money...? I don't know what kind of situation you are dealing with so it is hard to offer advice. If they are being abusive, contact the police and the Navy to file a report. If you think this may be an honest attempt to contact you for some reason but don't trust them, send the...

Re: Corporate IP Question

Yes, it is possible with government or corporations that a person's email sent to you could have been routed through a server that is some distance away from where they actually are. Or the Navy server could have been hacked to allow emails to be sent from it. You don't say why you are concerned abo...
