Question about ip lookup query

Post by rseverson » Wed Mar 17, 2010 11:30 am

When an IP lookup is run on this site, where is the information gathered from? I.E. is it from whois.arin.net (if it is in part a whois query what server is it run against) + a DNS query? What I am looking for is where exactly is the 'organization' section of the 'General information' output gathered from?

Thanks For any help
Russ

We don't disclose our processes in general. But if you provide the specific IP address I may be able to answer the question, with respect to just that IP address.

So can you explain what are the sources of matching IP <-> ISP ?
The problem is that one IP prefix is not recognized properly. I'll send you PM which one.

IP address queries are generally run against the RIPE (European) or ARIN (American) databases. These databases have complete maps of all the ip addresses currently in use and which local providers have what ranges.
