same Ip address?

Post by jaydee »

Hi Team,

Can anyone help to explain why the following are the 'same'.

bond0.122 150.105.162.0 UNKNOWN 255.255.254.0 <-- oracle crs public ip address range

150.105.163.116 <-- vip of a node.

Im sure I havent asked correctly!

thnx.

Both IP addresses are allocated to the same business. They use 150.105.0.0 - 150.105.255.255.

Why do you think it should be showing something different?

yes.

I would have expected crs to have a public IP as

bond0.122 150.105.163.0 UNKNOWN 255.255.254.0

ie, not use .162

The entire block of 150.105.0.0 - 150.105.255.255 is public.

What is the abbreviation "crs" short for?

Is there something that leads you to believe that it should be 150.105.163.0 and not 150.105.162.0?

crs is a resource handler within an oracle cluster.
The defined IP address for the interface resource is bond0.122 150.105.162.0 255.255.254.0

but the VIP, virtual IP address of the node is 150.105.163.0

As my Ip knowledge is a little limited Im wondering how the crs resource handler can accept a different VIP to the one (or range) it has registered.

Hope this is clear.. Im not sure how to describe the situation.

Depends on how a network/router is configured it's easy to route one IP address to another.
