Detailed enquiry

Good day to the readers.
I first wish to say that i am no expert in any of these matters ie; IP/MAC/Email Tracing, but i do dabble with them from time to time.
secondly, I apologize for the fact there is a good chance this is a repeated question, so please bare with me.

So, my question is:
how is it, people can see past the ISP and find someones actual location rather than the ISP Servers?
something in particular, "VirtuallyVain" a you-tuber.
He poses as an African warlord and finds the location, FB account and Phone number of people he plays against to freak them out
I want to know how this is possible since i was under the assumption that the ISP hid mostly all of these details. when i do searches i get nothing near my own location, i get the nearest exchange at best.
what is the secret? how is he able to narrow it down so easily?

Kind Regards,
- Static

From what I could tell from the video he starts out using a "Sniffer". This allows him to see the IP address of traffic to his machine and I suspect that COD is sending messages directly to the IPs of the other players and that makes IP detection possible since the messages are not going through central servers which would be private.

Once he has the IP address, it's easy to figure out the general physical location of the IP address in most cases, in fact the video in the link you posted appears to be using the IP information provided by this very site!

Then, using the COD username of the other players I bet most of use the same thing in many places like Facebook. Even if there is more than one user with the same username (ie. you can use the geo location to narrow down the choices.

So to sum up what is going on, I think the guy is just pretty good at getting the starting information and then doing research to connect the dots.

Those that are not aware of this concept should watch this video from 2014:
