Dear members of the forum

Why some people say that aol iol and uol are proxys and not server email clientes

It's just a defintion. Even I don't understand Portugese but what I see is kinda of an InternetShop that provides you an extra email-service. Similar to aol or Yahoo! or Google. However I don't understand what you mean here proxy and server email client.
Proxy is by defintion deputizing or proxying someone/something and Proxy does that too.
Server email client (?) is if I understand you correctly a server which hold your emails or your email account (->aol, Yahoo!, Hotmail). Proxy & mail server can be intertwined...
And generally speaking: Every ISP-Host is a proxy and if it offers you a free email account it is a mail server too.

AOL provides a variety of services.

They provide internet connectivity. When people use AOL as an ISP AOL chooses to frequently route the traffic through their own internal proxy servers to reduce their bandwidth usage and attempt to provide the user a better (faster) user experience.

AOL also provide email services independent of being the person's ISP.
