FACEBOOK HACKING
Around Christmas Day - between about 23rd to 25th December 2012 - my profile photo on Facebook was changed without my knowledge or consent. It wasn't a particularly malicious hacking - the image inserted was just a Santa Claus cap - but it seems to show that someone had unauthorised access to my Facebook account. Can anyone explain how this could have been done, how to prevent it in future, and also if possible, how to trace the identity of the hacker? :o

You should be able to prevent this from happening in the future by using a long, complicated password that you only use for your Facebook account. If you have already done that, then you need to make sure your computer's anti-virus software is up to date and that you don't have a "Keylogger" installed on your PC.

As for the other questions, you should contact Facebook support since they can help you where others cannot. Good Luck!

How do you find the keylogger?

Use an anti-virus or anti-spyware program that can detect keyloggers.

You can also look at your computer's file system and sometimes find new files that keyloggers create. If you look at the files you will see things related to what you do on the Internet including usernames and passwords you type in.

Thanks, nielsencl1, for your reply. :) Is it against the rules of these forums for you to suggest an anti-virus program which will detect keyloggers effectively? In the past I've used Norton, AVG (both free and paid versions) and avast! (paid version). At the moment I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials (free), but I doubt if it's sufficient to stop all the nasties. I also have Malwarebytes anti-malware (paid version).
