Proxy Checks to Prevent Credit Card Fraud

We have been having alot of fraudulent credit card orders going into our database lately. These orders are always placed by people using proxy servers to hide their real IP address. I know that it will be difficult to ever figure out their actual IP address, but many online tools have been able to determine that they are probably using a proxy.

However, manually checking these IP addresses takes up alot of time, especially since we're doing hundreds of orders a day (not a ton, I know, but we're a small company), so we don't have the time to check every IP address that goes through the system to see if it's behind a proxy.

I'm hoping I can figure out a way to write some code that automatically checks if the user is probably using a proxy, and then automatically sends us an email if that's the case. We're using .NET, but I also have experience with many languages/frameworks and can think outside the box to get this done. Basically, I just want to write some code to automate checks similar to the ones performed at:

If anyone give any suggestions about how I could pull this off, please let me know. Obtaining the IP addresses of our customers is the easy part - we have the data - I just need to figure out how to do these proxy checks on my end.

We're working to provide such a service. In the mean time you may want to look into MaxMind's MinFraud service @
