Hi! Very new to tracing IP.
Unfortunately I am a victim of slander. Someone sent an anonymous email to my workplace spreading lies about me. My boss shared that email with me so I take necessary action, but all I have is an email address (Gmail). Can I look for the IP only with the email address? Also will the person be alerted that I’m looking for their IP?

Sorry to hear about that.
You will not be able to get the person's IP address based in their email address alone. You would need to either work with a lawyer to subpoena the Google account access records or trick the person into clicking on a link that would record their IP address.
