Problem with my IP adress when sending e-mail

Post by Zoran » Sun May 10, 2015 7:10 am

Im having this issue and it bothers me a lot lately. It is that when I send mail to someone my IP adress changes meaning that reciever of that message sees IP adress that is not really mine but it is located somewhere in America.
Im using Gmail and Hotmail and it happens the same with both clients.
But when my brother who is on the same network as Im sends me mail I see his real IP adress so the problem is only with me.
I have installed Hot spot Shield and other few programs for hiding IP adress but it still happens the same no matter if any of those programs and active or not.
What is the issue here?
Thank you..

Since you have not provide any specifics (IP addresses or email headers) I can only guess that you are seeing the IP address of the Gmail or Hotmail mail servers and not your own IP address.

It says sender IP is 209.85.216.170 which is located in USA and the ISP provider is Google so does that mean that all mail goes through Google servers leaving only their IP adress visible in the message header??

Correct, in most cases Gmail and Hotmail do not include the sender's IP address in the headers -- the only public IP address(es) in the headers are those of the Gmail/Hotmail servers. Because mail-servers are not end users and how these providers configure their networks it does not mean that the email actually passed through a server in California. It is one of the flaws in IP geolocation.

I assume that your brother uses a different email provider?

Most people would not actually consider this a problem -- they would prefer people to not know their IP address or the general area from which they sent their email.
