The person writing to me says he's in Victoria, BC, Canada, but when I use the email trace feature, it says Modesto, California is where the source host name is located. I am a complete novice at this and need some help. Can anyone tell me where this person was when he sent me the following email? Thanks in advance for any help provided.

I don't see any indication of where the person's location. I will say that the return email address uses Yahoo.ca which may indicate the person is in Canada, at least when they got the email address.

Why are you wondering about their location? Don't you trust them?

I am not sure the man I am corresponding with is who he says he is. Is there no way to find out the location the email was sent from?

It would require hiring a lawyer...

I would always trust your instincts when it involves people that you have never met in person. What's their story?

Will trust my instincts. Have asked him for something to confirm his identity and location but have heard nothing back. Relationship isn't going to proceed unless he responds to my request. Thanks for your help.

It's good to trust your instincts and be cautious with incoming mail from strangers. In the past I've received emails where the sender claims to be in one place, the email address suggests another place, and an investigation of the email headers (often more accurate) shows somewhere else again!
