Trace gmail to a particular city?

Hi,

I've been receiving emails from someone who is trying to be anonymous, using a gmail account ([email protected]). However, I suspect I know who this person is. I understand that if someone sends you a gmail, you can't trace it to exactly who sent it, but is there a way that you can at least trace it to the city or even state from where it originated? If I can trace my emails back to a particular state, that might be enough for me to confirm who the sender is.

Thanks!

Unfortunately without a court order you cannot find out, from Google, where the user may be located.

However, there are a number of other techniques that you can use to attempt to get their IP address, and then their general location. See How do I get someone's IP address?
